South Tyneside Homes Board

Who are the Board?

The board is made up of 12 members – four tenants representing all of the Borough, four councillors and four independent people.

What does the board do?

The ALMO Board makes sure that South Tyneside Homes operates independently from the Council and is committed to improving services for residents so we can get the extra funding for the Decent Homes programme.

The Board is responsible for setting service standards for council housing and making decisions on how to spend the budget. The Board is also responsible for decisions that will shape and improve the service.

South Tyneside Homes has established three committees to ensure that the Board can focus on achieving what it aims to do. The committees cover three areas: Decent Homes, Human Resources and Finance and Audit.

What roles do South Tyneside Homes and South Tyneside Council play?

South Tyneside Homes, in partnership with South Tyneside Council, work with partners and the community to improve the services we deliver to our customers.

 

South Tyneside Homes is responsible for:

  • Collecting rent
  • Repairing and improving homes
  • Managing tenancies
  • Dealing with empty homes
  • Letting empty homes
  • Working with the Council to tackle anti-social behaviour
  • Supporting people through sheltered housing, other supported projects
  • Involving and empowering tenants and leaseholders
  • Working with the Council, partners and other stakeholders
  • Monitoring and improving services and standards

South Tyneside Council is responsible for:

  • Monitoring South Tyneside Homes’ performance
  • Developing and deciding the housing strategy for the borough
  • Setting the rent
  • Setting service charges
  • Preventing homelessness and managing homelessness applications
  • Managing the anti-social behaviour team
  • Housing policy
