Your Choice
We have modernised and improved the way we let homes to customers to make finding a new home as simple, fair and open as possible.
To do this, we have introduced a new lettings service called Your Choice.
What is Your Choice?
Your Choice is the name of the Choice Based Lettings system that we use to allocate the council’s homes to applicants who have registered for rehousing. It offers greater choice to people who want to rent council housing.
Your Choice will provide you with:
- A letting system that is clearer and easier to understand
- More information about the homes available
- The option to express an interest in available homes
- More choice and involvement when choosing a home and area to live in
- The opportunity to find a home across the whole of South Tyneside
Mutual Exchange and other housing options
There are a number of other housing options also available to you:
Mutual Exchange – Swap your home permanently with another tenant in Tyne and Wear.
Moving further afield – Swap your home with other council and Housing Association tenants across the country.
Private landlords – Rent a home in the private sector.
