Garages

There are garages for rent on a number of estates in the borough.

Each local housing office has a waiting list of customers who would like to rent a garage.

Renting a garage

If you wish to rent a garage from the us, you should complete a garage application form.

You can apply for a garage online on the South Tyneside Council website or pick up an application from your local housing office.

Once you have completed the Garage Application form, you will be entered on the waiting list and we will let you know when a garage becomes available. As demand sometimes exceeds supply we maintain a waiting list based on date of application. Your wait will depend on the area you want and how many other people are waiting.

Who can apply to rent a garage?

Anyone can apply to rent a garage from us. We operate a waiting list and give preference to those who have waited the longest.

What are the restrictions on garage use?

Garages are for personal private use only and must not be used for business purposes. They are intended for the storage of a motor vehicle and should not be used for the storage of any other goods. You should not store petrol or any other inflammable materials in your garage. You should not sublet your garage to anyone else.

How do I end my garage tenancy?

We require one weeks advance notice if you want to give up your garage. When you give us back the keys the garage should be empty and swept through. There will be a charge you if we have to clear it for you.
