Clocking Up The Miles To Raise Money For Cancer Charity
News
Staff from South Tyneside Homes clocked up more than 200 miles last year to raise money in memory of three colleagues who sadly lost their battles against cancer.
A team of nine cyclists from across the company completed a three day Coast to Coast bike ride from Workington to South Shields, raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Service Development Manager, Ian Hunter was also sponsored for taking part in the Great North Run, bringing the final total to more than £1,000
The fundraisers recently handed over a cheque for £1,075 to Macmillan's Fundraising Manager, Sarah Goldie.
Receiving the cheque, she said: "It is fantastic that the staff at South Tyneside Homes have raised this money for Macmillan. Without donations such as these we simply could not provide the vital services for people affected by cancer, we cannot thank them enough.
"Cancer is the toughest fight most of us will ever face. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed, you need a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way. That's who we are."
John Musson, South Tyneside Homes' Director of Housing, added: "After sadly losing three colleagues to cancer last year, we decided it would be a fitting tribute to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support in their memory.
"Thanks to the support of colleagues, friends and family, we were able to raise a fantastic amount for this cause. Macmillan Cancer Support provides great practical, medical and financial support to the families affected by the illness."
