Tyne and Wear Homes
We are now advertising homes available in South Tyneside, Gateshead, Newcastle and North Tyneside through a new lettings partnership - Tyne and Wear Homes. This partnership also means that you only have to fill out one application form to register for council housing with all four local councils.
Before you can apply for a home, you need to be a member of our housing scheme.
To apply you can:
- Complete an online application form
- Download our Housing Application Form[pdf - 1Mb], complete it by hand and return it to the address listed on the right
- Complete an application form over the phone by calling South Tyneside Homefinder on 0300 123 6633
Already registered?
If you are already registered on our housing list, you will have now received a letter asking you to re-register with Tyne and Wear Homes. If you haven't received this letter and registered an application for council housing in South Tyneside before November 2010, please contact the Homefinder Team.

What is Tyne and Wear Homes?
We have been working with the local authorities in Gateshead, Newcastle and North Tyneside to create a new lettings partnership for council housing. The new partnership is called Tyne and Wear Homes.
Will I be able to apply for council housing in more than one area?
Once Tyne and Wear Homes is launched, you will be able to apply for housing in one or more of the following areas after completing just one application form:
- South Tyneside
- North Tyneside
- Gateshead
- Newcastle
However, your application will still be assessed against the local lettings policy used in the area where you want to live.
How will the homes be advertised?
All of the available homes in each area will be advertised together from a Thursday 00.01am to Monday 11.59pm. This will give you more choice when you are bidding for a council home.
You will be able to place 3 bids per week and we will also have a new information system that will let you know your shortlist position throughout the advertising cycle.
