Ways to pay your rent
We offer a number of ways to make paying your rent as easy possible:
If you have a bank account this is the safest and easiest way to pay your rent. Your payment comes automatically from your bank account.
If you want to start paying this way simply call the Income Team on 0300 123 66 33, we can now set up your direct debit over the phone.
If you haven't yet set up a bank account, we can help. We work with Barclays Bank and Leeds Building Society to promote basic bank accounts. Once you have an account you will be able to set up direct Debit, Standing Order and a range of other financial services. Contact the Income team on 0300 123 6633 for further details.
E-services offers a convenient and secure way to pay your rent online using a debit card:
Simple to set up. A regular payment can be sent by your bank to your rent account. If you pay monthly, it must be in advance.
The Income Team or your Delivery Officer will explain how to set up a standing order, provide you the relevant forms and help you fill them in.
Local Housing Offices
You can pay your rent in cash using the self-service kiosks at the Jarrow, Landreth and South Shields offices. Find out more about Local housing offices.
Customers who wish to use their debit card to pay their rent can do so using the self-service kiosks at the Jarrow, Landreth and South Shields offices or by calling our Housing Services Centre on 0300 123 66 33.
Deductions from salary or Superannuation
For customers who are employees of South Tyneside Council or whose pension is paid by the Council, simply give us a call and provide your payroll number to request this service.
Direct from the Benefits Agency
If you receive Job Seekers' Allowance, ESA, Income Support or Pension Credits you may be able to pay your rent directly from your benefit. Please contact the Income Team for advice on this method of payment.
You can use your swipecard to pay your rent at selected retail outlets. Currently you can pay at any location that displays the Paypoint logo.
If you have misplaced your swipe card please contact the Income Team on 0300 123 6633.
You can make payments using a debit card by calling 0300 456 0501 and following the instructions for payment. You will need to have your card details ready as well as your 7-digit cashiers reference which is located on the bottom right corner of your swipe-card. This is an automated service available 24 hours a day. You can also pay with your debit card during office hours by contacting the Income Team on 0300 123 6633.
