Housing benefit
To find out if you are entitled to Housing and Council Tax Benefit you will need to complete the relevant form. You can pick up a claim form from your local housing office. Our staff can help you to complete your claim form in order to avoid delays which would result in arrears.
It is your responsibility to get a claim registered with the Housing Benefit Department. Any delay may result in full rent being charged.
If you are a new claimant you can contact a dedicated telephone line 0191 424 4333 for help with making a new claim.
You can also get an estimate of the Housing Benefits you may be entitled to by using the online Benefits Calculator on southtyneside.info
For more information contact the council's Benefits Team on 0191 424 4333, Monday to Thursday 8:30am-5pm and Friday 8:30am-4:30pm, or e-mail them at benefits@southtyneside.gov.uk.
Benefits advice is also available at the Customer Service Centres at South Shields Town Hall and Jarrow Town Hall.
