How to get involved
We know that involving people in managing their homes and estates is vital to delivering better housing services and improving the quality of life for local communities. Tenant involvement is about Council tenants and leaseholders being given their say in the decisions that affect their home and the community they live in.
Why be involved?
We want the views of people who live in our homes. Getting involved means that you can take part in local decisions about how your estate is run, giving you the chance to have input into wider changes that affect all tenants and helping create a better sense of community in the street where you live.
Being part of an organised tenants’ or leaseholders’ group will give you a greater voice when talking about local issues with the Council. South Tyneside Homes actively encourages all its tenants and leaseholders to get involved in the decisions that affect the service they receive.
We recognise that everyone has different priorities and views and that some will have more time than others. This is why we have a range of ways in which you can become involved.
You can make a difference!
What if I don’t want to get involved?
That’s fine. We will always keep you involved through letters, leaflets and newsletters. We will also consult you personally about issues that affect you directly. We also regularly carry out opinion surveys to help us find out what you think of our service.
Ways of being involved
There are a number of ways you can influence the service. Whatever time you have, there’s a way for you to get involved that suits you.
You can become formally involved – this means coming to meetings and may also mean that you are chosen as a representative to sit on other groups.
