Our Language Statement
Area Panels
Area Panels were formed in July 2007 and are geographically based groups consisting of 4 local councillors and 4 local tenants and leaseholders. They were formed to take forward local decision making with respect of discretionary area based environmental schemes that will help shape neighbourhoods into places of choice.
There are 3 Area Panels covering:
- Jarrow and Hebburn
- Riverside and West Shields
- East Shields, Boldon, Cleadon and Whitburn.
The budget allocation to cover the 3 Panels was £700,000 and after a very successful year they have approved approximately 130 schemes between them covering such things as:
- landscaping;
- parking bays;
- fencing programmes;
- security lighting to bungalows;
- communal area updating;
- wall programmes;
- paths; and
- a selection of new upvc doors and some upgradin of single to double glazing.
We are now looking for scheme suggestions for the coming financial year

Does it meet any of the following criteria:
- Will it have a significant impact on your estate?
- Will it improve the appearance of the estate?
- Will it improve security?
- Will it tackle issues relating to crime/disorder and aid reducing fear of crime?
