Fix-It
FixIt is our transformed repairs service which has been designed with the help of our Repairs Service Development Group, and feedback and comments made from you our customers.
Reporting a repair
- Report online using our Housing Repair Request Form
- By telephone free of charge on 0800 694 6900
- By SMS text to 0778 620 0802 – FIXIT followed by your name, address and a description of your repair
- In person at your local housing office
- In writing to your local housing office
- By Typetalk. We welcome calls through Typetalk. Textphone users please prefix our telephone number with 18001
- Concierge. If you live in a multi storey flat you can report your repair to the concierge 24 hours a day from your home using your intercom.
Emergency repairs
For emergency repairs, please call 0800 694 6900.
This service is for emergencies only so please only use it for genuine emergency repairs. We have the right to charge you for emergency work we carry out outside normal working hours if we find that the work was not actually an emergency.

So just what does Fix It mean for me?
- Report repairs by telephone free of charge – even out of hours emergencies
- Appointments made available between 8 am and 8 pm Monday to Friday and between 9 am and 1 pm on Saturday
- All repairs, apart from emergencies, carried out by appointment, at a time that is suitable for you
- Report repairs using the Internet or SMS texts
- New improved timescales for completing your repairs
- Training provided to our team to help us to complete most jobs in one visit

Handyperson service
Are you moving into a new home? South Tyneside Homes' new Handyperson Service could help you.
If you are 65 or over or registered disabled the service will be free.
If you are under 65 there will be a charge for 2 hours of work.

Improvements made following consultation with our customers
- We have worked with customers via the Service Improvement Group to agree the Empty Homes Lettable Standard
- Tenant inspections ensure work carried out to our empty homes and on repairs is to a high standard
- Gas Servicing – information leaflets prepared and contact number is displayed on our company’s vehicles
- A FixIt service designed with our customers to meet their needs
