Your Tenancy Agreement explained

You have important rights as one of our customers. You also have important responsibilities, for example, you must be a good neighbour and respect other customers’ right to live in peace and quiet.

> Your tenancy agreement is available to download online.

What is a Tenancy Agreement?

Your Tenancy Agreement sets out your responsibilities as a customer and our responsibilities as a landlord. It sets out your rights under the law and the action we may take if any of the tenancy rules are broken.

We will keep this information up-to-date and give you your own Tenancy Agreement when you agree to take your home, or as soon as possible after you move in.

Your tenancy will either be a Secure Tenancy or an Introductory Tenancy.

Secure Tenancy

Most of our customers are secure tenants, which means that they are protected under the Housing Act 1985. This means that as long as this is your only and main home, we cannot make you leave without a court order.

Introductory Tenancy

If this is your first tenancy with us you will probably have an introductory tenancy. This will last for twelve months, after which you will automatically become a secure tenant.

It is important that you take time to read your Tenancy Agreement and ask your estate officer about anything in it that you do not understand.

How old do I have to be to apply for a home?

No one under eighteen can have a tenancy although you can apply to join the waiting list for a home if you are over seventeen years old.
