Fine fayre on the menu for older residents Wednesday 20 August 2014 Mouth-watering Friday feasts are on the menu for older residents in Hebburn.Age UK volunteer and ex-chef Colin Branch has been giving residents in Davies Court housing scheme cooking demonstrations - then allowing them to tuck into his culinary creations.The three-course lunches have now become a popular weekly fixture.South Tyneside Homes' Housing Plus officer Julie Carr, who organised the events, said: "Word is spreading fast and we've now got residents from other schemes asking to put their names down!"Colin puts on a little demo of how to cook the dishes from scratch and then we all sit down for a three-course meal together. He's had plenty of requests for recipes."It's a great way of encouraging residents to eat a healthy, balanced diet and to try new and different foods, as well as an opportunity to socialise."For a small charge of £2.75 residents receive a three-course meal such as carrot and coriander soup, followed by lamb hotpot with creamed potatoes and Bakewell tart for dessert.
