Fine fayre on the menu for older residents

Mouth-watering Friday feasts are on the menu for older residents in Hebburn.

Age UK volunteer and ex-chef Colin Branch has been giving residents in Davies Court housing scheme cooking demonstrations - then allowing them to tuck into his culinary creations.

The three-course lunches have now become a popular weekly fixture.

South Tyneside Homes' Housing Plus officer Julie Carr, who organised the events, said: "Word is spreading fast and we've now got residents from other schemes asking to put their names down!

"Colin puts on a little demo of how to cook the dishes from scratch and then we all sit down for a three-course meal together. He's had plenty of requests for recipes.

"It's a great way of encouraging residents to eat a healthy, balanced diet and to try new and different foods, as well as an opportunity to socialise."

For a small charge of £2.75 residents receive a three-course meal such as carrot and coriander soup, followed by lamb hotpot with creamed potatoes and Bakewell tart for dessert.
